When should I sign up for Original Medicare?

There is a 7 month window to enroll in Original Medicare. You can enroll 3 months before your 65th birthday, the month of, or 3 months after.

When can I add aditional coverage?

After you have signed up for original Medicare, you can choose either a medigap plan or an advantage plan. As soon as your Part B goes into affect you will have a 6 month window called your Open Enrollment Period to choose a Medigap plan. If you decide to go with an advantage plan, you will have a 7 month window called your Initial Enrollment Period where you can pick a plan. You can enroll 3 months before your 65th birthday, the month of, or 3 months after.

Advantage vs Medigap.. What's the Difference?

Advantage plans resemble typical employer insurance (deductibles, copays, max out of pocket). The cost to have this plan is typically low but you will pay more out of pocket when you need to utilize your plan. Medigap has a higher monthly premium. However, when using your plan you will pay very little out of pocket.

What if I continue working past age 65?

If your employer insurance is sufficient, you can start Medicare Part A and delay Part B until you fully retire. Make sure your employer coverage is deemed creditable.

How do I compare plans?

Do I need an agent to navigate Medicare?

Using an agent is of no cost to you but also not necessary. There are other methods available for finding plans such as self help websites and call centers.
